How to Properly Perform a Control Test
First, make sure to read the instructions carefully in your owner's booklet to perform the control solution test the right way.
Follow these steps whenever you perform a control solution test.
1. Control solution tests must be done @ room temperature (68° - 77° F).
2. Shake the control solution vial well before actually testing.
3. Discard the first drop of control solution you squeeze out then wipe the dispenser tip.
4. Apply a single drop of control solution to the narrow channel in the top edge of the OneTouch Ultra test strip.
1 Vial - One Touch Ultra Control Solution
I am a novice at this. My wife's meter reads my glucose levels at about 20 points lower than mine. So I got this test vial to check my meter. The acceptable range is way too wide, and while my meter was on the higher end, it is supposedly just fine. This morning my meter gave a reading of 159, but my wife's meter gave a reading of 140 (pretty consistent with prior checks). So, while the check fluid showed my meter was acceptable, it gave me no satisfaction because the allowable range of the fluid was 121-181. I feel a range of 60mg/dL is way too wide for any meaningful test.
That said, the check fluid did what it said it would do, so I can't fault that. So, if I get a reading of 20 points higher than that done with a different meter, I feel I can't trust this meter, but I can't say that the meter is wrong because the test fluid is too open to interpretation.
However, I am glad your company has such equipment to assist me in my 18 month blood sugar improvement journey, as I try to get a more healthy body. Even though my meter reads much higher than my wife's, it is consistent, so I can monitor day to day variations caused by diet, exercise and work in the yard.
